How To Use Your Work At Home Money

Work at home moms are often delighted to make a little—or a lot—of extra money for their families, but once you’ve made some work at home money, what should you do with it? Shopping sprees are fun…but you may be surprised to find they’re at the bottom of the list. There are several better ways work at home moms can use their hard-earned cash.

Work At Home Money Use #1: Pay Off Debts
If you have outstanding credit card debt—and let’s face it, who does not?—work at home moms should use their extra cash to pay off the family debt.

Work At Home Money Use #2: Savings
Once the debts are gone, start saving. Contribute money regularly to a ROTH IRA or your children’s college fund. Purchase CDs or open a savings account. Ideally, you should have enough money in savings to pay all household expenses for at least six months to a year in case an emergency comes up and you or your spouse can’t work.

Work At Home Money Use #3: Big Ticket Items
Once you’ve built up your savings account, work at home moms can start putting money in the kitty for something special. It may be that cruise you and your husband have been wanting to take, new bikes for the kids, or an enormous new entertainment center. Go for the best. You’ve earned it!

Work At Home Money Use #4: Mad Money
Every now and again, it’s okay to use your extra income to treat yourself to a shopping spree. My weakness is books. Yours may be clothes, jewelry, cosmetics, CDs, DVDs, computer games, or any of a hundred other things. Just don’t make shopping sprees a weekly habit. You’ve worked too hard for your money to throw it away on stuff you won’t care about in a week or two.
